Invenio is a global engineering service provider, grown with in the German Mittelstand and represented in many cities from Rüsselsheim to Sydney.
In 2006 we were asked to redesign their Corporate Design to meet the extended and changed self-image. The goal was a visual identity that stands in a sovereign and self-confident way for an international, creative technology company. The logo is the signature that subsumes the character of a company.
The existing logo appeared a bit out of date and with the engineers-blue i-dots was easy to identify as a product of the “pop art” 1980s. What the name promised wasn’t visible: Ingenuity, progress, open-mindedness and strong leadership.
In extensive conversations with the management we developed a self-perception and a vision of the company to implement visually in the logo proposals. The result follows an entirely different approach as its predecessor nevertheless the new doesn’t break up with the old. In fact the free-standing letters are drawn again as minuscule (small letters). They are standing bold and self-confident and have again by the exposed i-dots an – by far more decent – accent.
In this time the claim was changed from “Engineering Services” to “Engineering Solutions” which reflects the new mindset: “We do not deliver just a service – we deliver solutions!”
The corporate design-language beyond the logo was developed with a new image brochure. Graphical elements were elaborated so that they were adaptable on all media of the company later on.
A particular challenge was the stipulation that only fonts which are usually available on a Windows-PC were allowed to be used. This should make it possible that every employee all over the world could use the templates without having to install the corporate font.
Corresponding to the design-language throughout the whole business stationary, from business cards, over the letterhead to the PowerPoint-Templates and online ads were designed.
It requires a certain amount of discipline from the employees to stick to the guidelines of the corporate design in the daily communication with clients (and in general to outside communication). Therefore the (mainly digital) stored templates offer assistance. Nevertheless “guidance” is important that also communicates to the inside what the company wants to achieve with its visual identity and what the most important rules are.
